What it means
The BMS detects a circuit high fault on voltage sense channel E of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The BMS measures cell-group voltage through channel E and monitors the circuit signal it receives. This code sets when that signal is above the expected circuit range, making the channel E voltage reading unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense wire shorted to voltage
- Open or high-resistance connection in the sense circuit
- Fault in the battery voltage-sensing module
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare channel E live data with neighboring groups to establish whether the high signal is steady or tied to a particular condition.
- With the vehicle shut down as directed by the manufacturer, inspect channel E wiring for damage or contact with a voltage source.
- Check channel E connector pins for looseness, corrosion, or displacement that could interrupt the circuit and cause a high reading.
- Have a qualified technician isolate the high-voltage battery and test channel E for a short to voltage and continuity using the manufacturer's procedure.
- If the harness passes, compare the sensing module's channel E input with scan data to determine whether the module is producing the incorrect reading.
Common fixes
- Repair channel E wiring shorted to a voltage source.
- Secure or repair loose, corroded, or displaced channel E connector pins.
- Repair an open or high-resistance part of the channel E sense circuit.
- Repair or replace the sensing module if the channel E input remains high with a verified circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Keep driving to a minimum if channel E is reading high, and avoid relying on normal EV power or charging until diagnosed. Reduced power or limp mode may occur, and the BMS may restrict operation further.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
