What it means
The BMS detects a circuit high fault on voltage sense channel L of the high-voltage battery. Cell-group voltage measurement is unreliable on this channel.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The BMS reads a cell group’s voltage through battery voltage sense channel L. P0B75 sets when the channel L circuit is detected above its expected range, making that cell-group measurement unreliable.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sense wire shorted to higher voltage
- Reference regulator overvoltage
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and compare BMS live voltage readings for channel L with adjacent channels to confirm whether L is high or implausible.
- With the high-voltage system made safe under the manufacturer’s procedure, inspect channel L’s sense wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, moisture, or contact with another circuit.
- Check channel L connector seating and pin condition, since a poor connection can distort the signal even when the wire appears intact.
- Have a qualified hybrid technician test channel L for a short to a higher-voltage circuit and check the reference supply against the manufacturer’s specification.
- If the harness and reference supply test correctly, check the battery monitoring module’s channel L input for an internal fault.
Common fixes
- Reseat or clean a loose or corroded channel L connector.
- Repair damaged channel L wiring or insulation that allows contact with a higher-voltage circuit.
- Correct a faulty reference supply if testing shows it is overvoltage.
- Repair or replace the battery monitoring module only after wiring and supply checks pass.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving and avoid demanding acceleration or charging if the vehicle has reduced power or charging restrictions; the BMS may not be able to trust the channel L cell-group reading. Get the fault checked promptly because the vehicle can enter limp mode or further restrict charging.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
