What it means
The ECM detects a circuit high fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack voltage sense a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The hybrid battery voltage-sense A circuit supplies a measurement used to manage the battery pack and charging. P0ABD sets when the module sees the signal above its expected range; a wire shorted to battery voltage, an open sensor, or a poor high-resistance connector can produce that reading.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to B+
- Open sensor
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Scan hybrid and battery modules, save freeze-frame data, and look for companion codes related to voltage-sense A or battery monitoring.
- Review live data to see whether voltage-sense A is high, absent, or inconsistent with related battery measurements.
- With the high-voltage system isolated according to the manufacturer's procedure, inspect accessible voltage-sense A wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, or contact with a powered circuit.
- Use the wiring diagram to check the signal wire for a short to battery voltage and check the sensor path for an open, comparing results with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the harness and connector pass, test the sensing component and monitoring module using the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a voltage-sense A signal wire shorted to battery voltage.
- Repair an open wire or poor terminal connection in the sensing circuit.
- Replace corroded or damaged connector terminals.
- Replace the sensing component or monitoring module only if testing confirms it has failed.
Can I keep driving?
Charging may be limited and hybrid power may be reduced, so avoid long trips and situations that require full electric assistance. Do not open or probe high-voltage battery wiring; stop safely if the vehicle has severe power loss.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
