What it means
The control module detects a fault in the hybrid/EV battery pack voltage sense B circuit. The code alone does not identify whether the cause is the sensing circuit or its connections.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The battery pack voltage sense B circuit carries a voltage measurement used by the control module to monitor the hybrid or EV battery. P0B14 indicates a fault in this sensing path, but the code by itself does not tell whether the cause is the circuit, its wiring, or a connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Voltage sensing circuit fault
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Poor electrical connection
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and compare live voltage sense B data with other available battery voltage readings to identify when the readings differ.
- With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, visually inspect the accessible voltage sense B wiring and connectors for damage, corrosion, loose terminals, or poor seating.
- Check for related battery-voltage sensing or reference codes that may point to a shared circuit problem.
- Using the wiring diagram, test voltage sense B circuit continuity and its power, ground, and reference connections against the manufacturer's specification.
- Compare the sense B reading with the manufacturer's specification under the specified test conditions to determine whether the fault is in the circuit or sensing component.
Common fixes
- Reseat the voltage sense B connector and repair loose or corroded terminals.
- Repair damaged wiring in the voltage sense B circuit.
- Restore a faulty ground, reference, or other circuit connection to specification.
- Replace the sensing component only if circuit checks pass and its output remains out of specification.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid relying on electric propulsion or charging if the vehicle has reduced power or an EV system warning. Stop if the warning indicates a battery hazard or power becomes unpredictable, because the control module may limit or disable battery operation.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
