OBD-II fault code

P0ABC: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Voltage Sense A Circuit Low

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit low fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack voltage sense a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The hybrid battery voltage-sense A circuit provides a measurement for battery control and charging decisions. P0ABC sets when the module detects the signal below its expected range, which can happen if the signal wire is grounded, the sensor is internally shorted, or corrosion raises connector resistance.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to ground
  2. Internal sensor short
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan hybrid and battery modules, save freeze-frame data, and check for related codes that may point to the same voltage-sense A circuit.
  2. Review live data for voltage-sense A to confirm whether the signal is consistently low or changes with operating conditions.
  3. With the high-voltage system safely isolated by the manufacturer's procedure, inspect accessible voltage-sense A wiring and connectors for a ground contact, corrosion, or damage.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to test the signal circuit for a short to ground and check connector contact quality against the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If wiring and connectors pass, test the sensing component and monitoring module using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Clean and secure serviceable corroded voltage-sense A terminals.
  • Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or damaged insulation.
  • Replace damaged connector terminals or wiring.
  • Replace the sensing component or monitoring module only if testing confirms the fault.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced power or charging limits can leave less electric or hybrid assistance available; avoid long trips and routes where that could create a hazard. Do not handle high-voltage pack wiring, and stop safely if the vehicle loses substantial power.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
