What it means
The ECM detects a circuit range/performance fault on the hybrid/ev battery pack voltage sense a circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The hybrid battery voltage-sense A circuit supplies a pack-voltage measurement used for battery control and charging. P0ABB sets when the signal is present but its value or behavior falls outside the calibrated range or performance expected by the module; a displaced sensor or drift can cause this even without an open circuit.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- EV/hybrid system warning light on
- Reduced power output or limp mode
- Charging may fail or be slowed
- Reduced electric range
How to diagnose it
- Scan hybrid and battery modules, record freeze-frame data, and check for companion codes that could explain the voltage-sense A reading.
- Review live data for voltage-sense A and compare its behavior with related battery measurements under the conditions in the freeze frame.
- With the high-voltage system isolated using the manufacturer's procedure, inspect the accessible sensor mounting and connector for displacement, damage, or a poor fit.
- Check the voltage-sense A circuit and sensor installation against the wiring diagram and manufacturer's diagnostic specifications.
- If wiring and mounting are correct, follow the manufacturer's procedure to assess sensor drift and the cell-monitoring or battery control module.
Common fixes
- Secure or correctly position a displaced voltage-sense A sensor or connector.
- Repair damaged voltage-sense A wiring or terminals found during inspection.
- Replace a voltage-sensing component if testing confirms it has drifted outside specification.
- Repair or replace the monitoring module only if the specified tests identify it as faulty.
Can I keep driving?
Reduced power, limited hybrid operation, or charging problems may occur, so avoid long trips and situations that depend on full hybrid assistance. Leave high-voltage battery diagnosis to a qualified technician and stop safely if power becomes severely limited.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
