OBD-II fault code

P0369: Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1)

What it means

Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1): the signal is intermittent or erratic. This relates to engine timing; a fault can cause rough running, a no-start, or timing errors.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Camshaft Position Sensor B on bank 1 sends a position signal that the engine control module uses to track cam timing. This code sets when that signal cuts out or changes erratically instead of remaining consistent, often because vibration affects a connector or harness.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Intermittent connector
  2. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
  3. Harness routed against vibrating component

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Capture freeze-frame data and watch live Sensor B data on bank 1 for dropouts while the engine runs.
  2. Inspect the Sensor B connector for loose fit, corrosion, damaged seals, or terminals that may lose contact under vibration.
  3. Trace the harness from Sensor B and look for rubbing, tension, or contact with a vibrating or hot component.
  4. With the engine running and the fault monitored on a scan tool, gently move the connector and harness to see whether the signal drops out.
  5. If no wiring fault is found, test Sensor B and its circuit against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Secure the loose Sensor B connector or harness.
  • Clean corroded terminals or replace a damaged connector.
  • Repair chafed wiring and reroute it away from vibration or heat.
  • Replace Sensor B on bank 1 if its signal remains intermittent after wiring repairs.

Can I keep driving?

Intermittent cam signals can cause sudden rough running, power loss, or stalling, so avoid long trips and stop if the engine stalls or runs erratically. Continued driving may leave you unable to restart.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
