What it means
Camshaft position sensor A on bank 2 reads below lower plausibility — short to ground. The camshaft position sensor identifies which cylinder is on the compression stroke — without it the ECM cannot run sequential injection or coil-on-plug ignition correctly.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Camshaft Position Sensor A on bank 2 sends a signal the engine control module uses with the crankshaft signal to identify engine timing. P0347 sets when the Sensor A circuit voltage is detected below its expected range, commonly because the signal is shorted to ground or the circuit has a poor connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Short to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
- Possible rough idle or stalling
- Increased fuel consumption
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live data to confirm the bank 2 Sensor A signal is low when the fault occurs.
- Inspect the bank 2 Sensor A connector and harness for corrosion, chafing, crushed insulation, or contact with ground.
- Check the circuit wiring and connector pins for a short to ground, using the manufacturer’s wiring information.
- Test the sensor’s power, ground, and signal circuit as specified by the manufacturer to distinguish a wiring fault from a failed sensor.
- If the harness and connections pass inspection, test bank 2 Sensor A and replace it only if it fails.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose bank 2 Sensor A connector pins.
- Repair wiring shorted to ground or insulation damaged by chafing.
- Replace bank 2 Camshaft Position Sensor A if circuit testing identifies a failed sensor.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine is running normally, keep any necessary drive short and gentle; avoid high speeds and heavy acceleration. A low Sensor A signal can cause rough running or stalling, so stop if the engine begins to stall or lose substantial power.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
