What it means
A fault is detected in the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 circuit for Bank 2. The code does not by itself establish the sensor's location or effect on mixture.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 measures air temperature at the sensing point designated Sensor 1 for Bank 2. The control module monitors that sensor's electrical circuit and sets P00AA when it detects a circuit fault, without specifying whether the sensor, connector, wiring, or module caused it.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intake air temperature sensor 1 failed
- Loose, corroded, or damaged connector
- Open or shorted wiring
- Fault in the control module circuit
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Possible rough running or hesitation
- Fuel economy may worsen
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and compare the Bank 2 Sensor 1 temperature with ambient temperature after a cold soak for an implausible reading.
- Watch live Bank 2 Sensor 1 data during warm-up to see whether the reading changes smoothly.
- Inspect the Sensor 1 connector and Bank 2 wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or damage.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the Sensor 1 circuit for opens, shorts, and poor connections against the manufacturer's specification.
- Test the Bank 2 Sensor 1 element separately; investigate the control module only if the sensor and wiring pass.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure the Bank 2 Sensor 1 connector.
- Clean corroded terminals or repair damaged connector pins.
- Repair an open, short, or damaged section of Sensor 1 wiring.
- Replace the Bank 2 Sensor 1 if it fails testing to the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair or replace the control module only if circuit tests confirm it is faulty.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine runs normally and the warning light is steady, a short, gentle drive may be possible, but arrange diagnosis soon because faulty Bank 2 Sensor 1 data can affect fuel economy and emissions. Avoid hard acceleration if the engine hesitates or runs roughly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
