OBD-II fault code

P00AD: Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High Bank 2

What it means

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 circuit signal for Bank 2 is higher than expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 measures air temperature at the Bank 2 sensing point designated Sensor 1, and the control module monitors its circuit signal. P00AD means that signal is higher than expected, which may result from an open signal wire, corroded connector, or wiring that contacts a power source.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire open
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Supply wire pinched against B+ source

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Possible rough running or hesitation
  • Fuel economy may worsen

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and live Bank 2 Sensor 1 temperature to confirm the high-signal condition.
  2. Inspect the Sensor 1 connector and harness for an open or broken wire, corrosion, loose terminals, or insulation damaged near a power source.
  3. Reseat the connector and check whether gently moving the harness changes the live reading.
  4. Use the wiring diagram to test the Sensor 1 circuit for an open or unintended connection to power, following the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the wiring is sound, test the Bank 2 Sensor 1 and control-module circuit against the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure the Bank 2 Sensor 1 connector.
  • Repair an open signal wire or damaged harness section.
  • Replace corroded or damaged connector terminals.
  • Repair wiring that has contacted a power source.
  • Replace the Bank 2 Sensor 1 if it fails its specified test.

Can I keep driving?

If the warning light is steady and the vehicle runs normally, a short drive may be possible, but arrange diagnosis soon because an implausible Bank 2 Sensor 1 signal can affect fueling and emissions. Avoid driving if the engine hesitates or runs roughly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
