What it means
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 circuit signal for Bank 2 is lower than expected.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 measures air temperature at the second sensing point assigned to Bank 2, and its circuit carries the reading to the control module. P00A7 means the module sees a signal lower than expected, which can result from a signal wire shorted to ground, chafed insulation, or a poor connector connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Poor fuel economy
- Rough idle or hesitation
- Hard starting in some conditions
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame data and live Bank 2 Sensor 2 temperature to confirm the low-signal fault and note when it occurs.
- Inspect the Sensor 2 connector and harness for chafing, crushed insulation, corrosion, or a wire touching ground.
- Check the connector terminals for corrosion or poor contact, then secure the connection and see whether the live reading changes.
- Using the wiring diagram, test the Sensor 2 signal circuit for a short to ground and check continuity as specified by the manufacturer.
- If the wiring passes, test the Bank 2 Sensor 2 element and control-module circuit against the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the Bank 2 Sensor 2 connector and clean corroded terminals.
- Repair chafed insulation or a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Replace damaged connector terminals or harness sections.
- Replace the Bank 2 Sensor 2 if it fails its specified test.
Can I keep driving?
A steady warning light with normal engine behavior may allow a short drive, but have the low Bank 2 Sensor 2 signal diagnosed soon because inaccurate intake-temperature data can affect fueling and emissions. Stop driving if rough running or hesitation becomes severe.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
