What it means
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 circuit signal for Bank 2 is lower than expected.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 measures air temperature at the Bank 2 sensing point designated Sensor 1, and its circuit sends that reading to the control module. P00AC indicates a signal lower than expected, commonly from a signal wire shorted to ground, chafed insulation, or a poor connector contact.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
- Harness chafing through insulation
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Possible rough running or hesitation
- Fuel economy may worsen
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame and live Bank 2 Sensor 1 data to confirm the low-signal condition and when it occurs.
- Inspect the Sensor 1 connector and harness for chafing, crushed insulation, corrosion, or a wire contacting ground.
- Check the connector terminals for corrosion and poor contact, then see whether reseating the connector changes the live reading.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the Sensor 1 signal circuit for a short to ground and check continuity to the manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuit passes, test the Bank 2 Sensor 1 element and module circuit according to the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect the Bank 2 Sensor 1 connector and clean corroded terminals.
- Repair chafed insulation or a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Replace damaged connector terminals or harness sections.
- Replace the Bank 2 Sensor 1 if it fails its specified test.
Can I keep driving?
With a steady warning light and normal engine behavior, a short drive may be possible, but have the low Bank 2 Sensor 1 signal diagnosed soon because it can affect fueling and emissions. Stop if rough running or hesitation becomes severe.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
