What it means
A fault is detected in the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 circuit for Bank 1. The code identifies a circuit fault but does not by itself establish the sensor's location or effect on mixture.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 measures air temperature at a second intake-air sensing point, with its location varying by vehicle. The control module monitors this sensor's electrical circuit and sets P0095 when it detects a circuit fault, rather than a specific temperature that is merely out of range.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intake air temperature sensor 2 failed
- Open, short, or damaged sensor wiring
- Loose or corroded connector
- Control module fault
Symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Poor fuel economy
- Rough idle or hesitation
- Hard starting in some conditions
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and live Sensor 2 temperature data, comparing it with ambient temperature after the engine has sat long enough to cool.
- Locate Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 using vehicle information, then inspect its connector and wiring for looseness, corrosion, breaks, or rubbed insulation.
- Check that the Sensor 2 terminals are seated and making good contact, and inspect the sensor body and mounting for damage.
- Use the wiring diagram to test the sensor circuit for opens or shorts and compare measurements with the manufacturer's specification.
- If the circuit is sound, test Sensor 2 and consider a module fault only after verifying its power, ground, and signal path.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose Sensor 2 connector and secure its wiring.
- Repair damaged or corroded terminals and wiring in the Sensor 2 circuit.
- Replace Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 if circuit testing confirms the sensor has failed.
- Address a control-module fault only after the sensor and circuit have been verified.
Can I keep driving?
This code usually does not require stopping immediately if the engine runs normally, but the incorrect intake-temperature input can affect fuel economy and drivability. Avoid relying on the vehicle for demanding trips if it hesitates or starts poorly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
