OBD-II fault code

P002E: B Camshaft Profile Actuator A Control Circuit Low Bank 2

What it means

Low control voltage at the exhaust cam profile actuator (profile A, bank 2). Same as P002B on bank 2. The cam phaser actuator adjusts intake/exhaust timing under load — a stuck or slow phaser kills mid-rpm torque and can throw correlation codes between cam and crank.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The bank 2 exhaust cam profile actuator's control circuit operates the exhaust cam timing adjustment. The module sets P002E when it sees control voltage lower than expected on profile A, which can happen if the wire is grounded or a corroded connection restricts the circuit; the actuator may then fail to adjust timing properly.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Wiring shorted to ground
  2. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
  3. Harness chafing through insulation

Symptoms

  • Check engine light on
  • Power loss especially in mid-rpm range
  • Possible rough idle or stalling
  • Increased fuel consumption

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check for related cam timing codes to see when the bank 2 profile A circuit fault occurs.
  2. Inspect the actuator connector and harness along the bank 2 exhaust cam for chafing, crushed insulation, moisture, or corrosion that could pull the control circuit low.
  3. Check that the connector is fully seated and its terminals are clean, aligned, and gripping properly.
  4. Follow the wiring diagram to test the control wire for an unintended short to ground, isolating the actuator and module as directed by the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the harness passes, test the actuator and module circuit behavior to identify an internal short or control fault.

Common fixes

  • Clean and firmly reconnect the bank 2 profile A actuator connector if contact is poor.
  • Repair chafed insulation or a control wire shorted to ground.
  • Replace corroded or loose connector terminals.
  • Replace an internally shorted actuator after confirming the wiring is not grounding the circuit.
  • Repair or replace a module only after circuit tests identify it as the source.

Can I keep driving?

A brief, gentle drive may be possible if the engine remains stable, but avoid heavy throttle because exhaust cam timing may not adjust and performance can suffer. Do not continue if the engine stalls or becomes difficult to control.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
