OBD-II fault code

C060F: Left Park Brake Actuator Stuck On

What it means

The control module monitors whether the left park brake actuator releases when commanded. It sets this code when the actuator remains applied or does not respond as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The left park brake actuator releases the left side of the parking brake mechanism when commanded. The brake module monitors that release response; C060F sets when the left actuator remains applied or fails to release as expected.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Actuator stuck on
  2. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement
  3. Component wear with age - mechanical play

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a brake-capable scan tool to review freeze-frame data and check whether the left actuator was commanded to release when the fault set.
  2. Check for a parking brake warning and compare the left and right rear wheel behavior for signs that the left brake remains applied.
  3. Inspect the left actuator, connector, wiring, and linkage for debris, corrosion, damage, or mechanical binding.
  4. With the vehicle safely secured, command release through the scan tool and compare the left actuator response with the right.
  5. If the actuator receives the release command but stays applied, inspect the left-side actuator and brake mechanism for wear or a restriction.

Common fixes

  • Remove debris that is preventing the left actuator or linkage from moving.
  • Repair a damaged or corroded left actuator connection or wiring.
  • Correct binding in the left-side park brake mechanism.
  • Replace the left actuator if it remains applied despite a valid release command.

Can I keep driving?

Do not drive if the left rear brake is dragging, the vehicle pulls, or a wheel becomes hot; continued driving can overheat and damage the brake. If it releases and braking feels normal, travel only as needed to reach a safe repair location, since ABS or stability functions may be limited.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
