OBD-II fault code

C060E: Left Park Brake Actuator Performance/Stuck Off

What it means

The control module monitors whether the left park brake actuator engages when commanded. It sets this code when the actuator fails to respond or perform as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the ABS or stability-control warning light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The left park brake actuator moves the left side of the parking brake mechanism when the brake module commands it. The module checks for the expected response during application; C060E sets when the left actuator does not engage or move as expected.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Actuator stuck off
  2. Carbon or debris buildup preventing free movement
  3. Component wear with age - mechanical play

Symptoms

  • ABS warning light on
  • ESC/stability control deactivated
  • Possible reduced brake assist
  • Speedometer may behave erratically

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool that can access the brake module to read freeze-frame data and compare the left actuator command with its reported position or response.
  2. Check whether the parking brake warning and ABS or stability warnings are present, and note whether the fault appears during an apply command.
  3. Inspect the left rear actuator, its connector, and nearby wiring for debris, damage, corrosion, or a loose connection.
  4. With the vehicle safely secured, command the left actuator using the scan tool and compare its response with the right side.
  5. If the left actuator receives its command but does not move freely, inspect for binding or wear in the actuator and its mechanical linkage.

Common fixes

  • Clean debris from the left actuator or its mechanism if it is obstructing movement.
  • Repair a loose or damaged left actuator connector or wiring.
  • Free a binding left-side mechanism and correct the source of the restriction.
  • Replace the worn or stuck left park brake actuator if it fails to respond to a valid command.

Can I keep driving?

Treat the parking brake as unreliable and avoid relying on it to hold the vehicle; secure the vehicle in Park or gear and use a safe level parking spot. ABS or stability functions may be limited, so drive only as needed to reach a safe repair location and stop if braking feels abnormal.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
