What is the Proton Gen-2?

The Gen-2 is a compact five-door hatchback from Malaysian carmaker Proton. Its sloping rear gives it a distinctive profile, while the hatchback layout makes it practical for everyday use. In Proton’s range, it followed the larger Wira Aeroback and marked a move toward cars developed on the company’s own platform.

Launched in 2004, the Gen-2 introduced Proton’s CamPro engine family. It was built on a platform developed in-house, a notable step in the company’s shift toward greater independence in vehicle development.

Generations and design

The Gen-2 generation ran from 2004 to 2012. It took over from the Wira Aeroback, bringing a new design and a platform developed by Proton. The model did not have a later generation under the Gen-2 name.
