What is the KGM Rexton?

The Rexton is KGM’s largest SUV, with a traditional off-road foundation and room for family use. SsangYong introduced the name before the period covered by EU registration figures. The brand is now known as KGM.

The model history includes the first generation (Y200, 2010–2012), the updated first generation known as Rexton W (Y300, 2013–2017), and the second generation (Y400/Y450, beginning in 2017). Rexton W refreshed the original design and engineering. The second generation brought a more substantial redesign and a body-on-frame platform shared with the Musso pickup, in keeping with the Rexton’s rugged role.

Engines and power

EU registration figures for 2010–2025 cover 2.0- to 2.7-litre engines rated from 114 kW (155 PS) to 165 kW (224 PS). Diesel versions make up much of the EU picture, alongside petrol and other entries. UK VCA figures for 2004–2026 span 2.0 to 3.2 litres and 114 kW (155 PS) to 203 kW (276 PS). French ADEME figures for 2013–2015 list a 114 kW (155 PS) diesel.

A 2.2-litre diesel rated at 133 kW (181 PS) was among the most registered EU versions in both 2018 and 2019. The leading listed version in 2014 was a 2.0-litre diesel at 114 kW (155 PS).

Fuel consumption and markets

The lowest listed EU consumption is 7.8 L/100 km on WLTP. The UK low is 7 L/100 km on NEDC, and the French low is 7.4 L/100 km on NEDC. WLTP and NEDC are different test procedures, so each figure is best understood in its own market. EU registrations total 38,774 for 2010–2025; UK VCA figures span 2004–2026, while French ADEME figures cover 2013–2015.
