What is Hummer?

Hummer is an American name associated with large, rugged off-road vehicles. Its roots are in the civilian version of the military Humvee, built by AM General. General Motors later took over the Hummer name and developed a broader line of road-going vehicles, including the H1, H2 and H3.

The Hummer models in this range are aimed at drivers who want an upright, truck-like SUV or pickup with a strong off-road identity. The H3 brought that idea into a smaller format within the Hummer family.

Hummer models and years

The H3 is the longest-running model listed here, spanning 2006–2011. It is joined by the H3T, a pickup version that appears for 2009–2010. Together, these two lines show how Hummer offered both an SUV and a pickup around the end of the brand’s original run.

The H3 was the more broadly represented of the two in EU registrations: 365 were recorded in 2010–2011. That gives a sense of the SUV’s presence in European official registration figures.

How did the range develop?

Hummer began with the H1, the civilian counterpart to the military Humvee. GM’s later models carried the distinctive squared-off styling and off-road character into vehicles designed for a wider civilian audience. The H3 continued that approach in a more compact package than the earlier Hummers.

The H3T extended the H3 line with a pickup body, giving the range a different shape for drivers who wanted an open cargo bed. The two models mark the final years covered for the original Hummer range; GM announced it would wind down the brand after a proposed sale fell through.

Markets and electrification

Hummer appears in official figures for the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. These markets use different test procedures: WLTP or NEDC in Europe, EPA in the United States, and the 5-cycle method in Canada, so fuel-consumption and emissions results should be read in their market context.

The H3 and H3T in these model years are part of Hummer’s original combustion-era range. The name’s later electric chapter belongs to GMC, where Hummer returned as an EV; that is a separate line from the models covered here.
