What is the Honda Odyssey?

The Odyssey is Honda’s family minivan, with a roomy cabin and flexible seating for passengers and luggage. It fills a larger, more comfort-focused role in the range than the City or CR-X. In North America, the model’s family-focused features include movable second-row Magic Slide seats and CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems for checking in with rear passengers.

The Odyssey name covers different vehicles in different regions. The North American model and the Odyssey sold in other markets followed separate generation timelines, so their histories are best understood separately.

Generations and changes

The North American Odyssey generations are: first, 1995–1998; second, 1999–2004; third, 2005–2010; fourth, 2011–2017; and fifth, 2018–today. The fifth generation brought features such as second-row Magic Slide seats and CabinWatch and CabinTalk systems, designed to make it easier to manage seating and communicate around the cabin.

A separate fifth-generation Odyssey, sold in other markets, ran from 2014–2022. Its timeline overlaps with the North American fourth and fifth generations because these are regional versions rather than one shared sequence.

Engines and fuel consumption

North American versions use petrol engines ranging from 2.2 L to 3.5 L. The European Union registration entries are for a 3.5 L petrol engine rated at 209 kW (284 PS).

In the United States, the EPA’s best combined rating is 22 MPG, and its lowest listed consumption is 10.7 L/100 km. Canada’s lowest listed consumption is 10.6 L/100 km on the NRCan 5-cycle test. Test procedures differ: the EPA uses its own procedure, while NRCan uses the Canadian 5-cycle method. European fuel economy and CO₂ figures use procedures such as WLTP or NEDC, so results are not directly interchangeable.

Where was the Odyssey sold?

The Odyssey appears in United States and Canadian figures across a long model history, and in European Union registrations for 2019–2020. The American Odyssey and the separate international model followed different regional timelines.
