OBD-II fault code

U054D: Invalid Data Received From Seat Control Module H

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from seat control module H. Seat position, memory recall or heating/ventilation values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.

How it works

Seat control module H reports seat position and may report memory, heating, or ventilation status over the vehicle network. Other modules check those values for plausibility; U054D sets when a receiving module rejects data attributed to seat module H.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save U054D, related codes, and freeze-frame details to identify the receiving module and conditions when module H's data was rejected.
  2. Check live data for module H's communication status and compare its reported seat position or memory, heating, and ventilation values with actual operation.
  3. Inspect module H's connectors, under-seat wiring, power and ground for looseness or damage, taking care around restraint-system wiring.
  4. Check whether the fault followed a module replacement or software change, and verify module H's configuration against the vehicle and seat.
  5. If wiring and configuration are sound, use the manufacturer's network diagnostics to check module messages and gateway routing.

Common fixes

  • Secure or repair a damaged or loose connector or wire at seat control module H.
  • Restore a poor power or ground connection to the seat module.
  • Correct an incompatible module configuration or software mismatch after replacement.
  • Repair or replace module H if its reported seat data remains implausible with sound wiring and correct setup.
  • Repair gateway routing if testing confirms that module H's messages are being misrouted.

Can I keep driving?

The vehicle is usually drivable, but seat adjustment, memory, heating, or ventilation controlled through module H may be unavailable. Confirm the seat is securely positioned for safe driving before moving the vehicle.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
