OBD-II fault code

U054F: Invalid Data Received From Side Obstacle Detection Control Module C

What it means

A receiving module detected implausible data from side obstacle detection module C (corner radar). Distance/closing-speed values fail plausibility checks and are rejected; blind-spot warning may be inhibited.

How it works

Side obstacle detection control module C, a corner radar, reports detected-object distance and closing-speed information over the vehicle network. Receiving modules check these values for plausibility; U054F sets when a module rejects data attributed to radar C, which can inhibit blind-spot warnings.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module internal fault or sensor input drift
  2. Software version mismatch after replacement
  3. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules and save U054F, related driver-assistance codes, and freeze-frame details to identify which module rejected radar C's data and when.
  2. Check live data for radar C's communication status and whether its distance and closing-speed readings are plausible when nearby objects move past that side of the vehicle.
  3. Inspect radar C's mounting area for dirt, damage, misalignment, or obstruction, and check its connector and wiring for corrosion or impact damage.
  4. Check whether body repairs, a bumper replacement, or module or software replacement preceded the fault, and verify the radar's configuration and alignment requirements from the manufacturer.
  5. If the installation and wiring are sound, use the manufacturer's network diagnostics to check radar messages and gateway routing.

Common fixes

  • Clean an obstructed radar C sensing area and remove anything blocking it.
  • Repair a loose, corroded, or damaged connector or wiring to radar C.
  • Restore the radar's correct mounting and alignment after verifying the manufacturer's procedure.
  • Correct an incompatible module configuration or software mismatch after replacement.
  • Repair or replace radar C if its data remains implausible with sound wiring, mounting, and configuration.

Can I keep driving?

You can generally drive, but blind-spot alerts that depend on radar C may be unavailable or unreliable. Check mirrors and blind spots directly, and do not rely on the warning system until it is repaired.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
