What it means
A receiving module detected implausible data from seat control module G. Seat position, memory recall or heating/ventilation values fail plausibility checks and are rejected.
How it works
Seat control module G reports seat position and may report memory, heating, or ventilation status over the vehicle network. Other modules check those values for plausibility; U054C sets when a receiving module rejects data attributed to seat module G.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Module internal fault or sensor input drift
- Software version mismatch after replacement
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Scan all modules and save U054C, related codes, and freeze-frame details to determine which module rejected seat module G's data and when.
- Check live data for module G's communication status and compare reported seat position or memory, heating, and ventilation values with the seat's actual operation.
- Inspect module G's connectors, under-seat wiring, power and ground for looseness or damage, taking care around restraint-system wiring.
- Check for a recent seat-module replacement or software change and verify that the module configuration is correct for the vehicle and seat.
- If wiring and configuration are sound, follow the manufacturer's network checks to distinguish implausible module output from gateway routing trouble.
Common fixes
- Secure or repair a damaged or loose connector or wire at seat control module G.
- Restore a poor power or ground connection to the seat module.
- Correct an incompatible module configuration or software mismatch after replacement.
- Repair or replace module G if its reported seat data remains implausible with sound wiring and correct setup.
- Repair gateway routing if testing shows seat-module messages are being misrouted.
Can I keep driving?
The vehicle is usually drivable, but seat adjustment, memory, heating, or ventilation controlled through module G may be unavailable. Make sure the seat is securely positioned for safe driving before setting off.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
