What it means
Communication with Door Control Module G was not received as expected. The code does not identify which door or functions that module controls.
At a glance
- Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication
How it works
Door Control Module G sends network messages that other modules use for status and control; the letter G identifies the module in the code and does not map it to a particular door. U0205 sets when a monitoring module misses valid expected messages from Module G for the calibrated interval.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Module unpowered
- Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
- CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec
Symptoms
- Multiple warning lights may illuminate
- Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
- Specific functions inoperative depending on module
- Diagnostic tools may show communication faults
How to diagnose it
- Record freeze-frame data and scan every module for communication faults to establish whether U0205 is isolated or accompanied by broader network loss.
- Attempt communication with Door Control Module G using a capable scan tool and check which other modules report it missing.
- Locate Module G from vehicle-specific wiring information and inspect its connector, harness, and grounds for corrosion, water, impact damage, or loose terminals.
- Measure the module’s power and ground circuits under the manufacturer’s specified conditions to rule out a supply problem.
- If power and ground are good, test the relevant CAN wiring and termination to specification and assess gateway routing if additional modules are offline.
Common fixes
- Repair damaged wiring or clean and secure the Module G connector.
- Restore a failed Module G power or ground connection.
- Repair a confirmed CAN bus wiring or termination fault.
- Correct gateway routing if network testing identifies it as the cause.
Can I keep driving?
If only door-related features are unavailable and the vehicle otherwise behaves normally, drive only as needed and verify each door is latched. Avoid driving if accompanying network faults compromise safe operation.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
