U0207: Lost Communication With Moveable Roof Control Module

What it means

Communication with the Moveable Roof Control Module was not received as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

The Moveable Roof Control Module communicates roof status and control information to other modules over the vehicle network. U0207 is set when a monitoring module does not receive valid expected messages from this roof module for its calibrated interval.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module unpowered
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and check all modules for related communication codes to see whether the missing roof module is part of a wider network problem.
  2. Try to communicate with the Moveable Roof Control Module using a capable scan tool and note which other modules cannot see it.
  3. Locate the module from vehicle-specific wiring information and inspect its connectors, harness, and grounds for looseness, corrosion, water, or damage.
  4. Test its power and ground circuits under the manufacturer’s specified conditions, since a supply fault can mimic a failed module.
  5. If power and ground are good, test the CAN wiring and termination to specification and investigate gateway routing if other modules are also affected.

Common fixes

  • Repair or secure a damaged or corroded roof-module connector or harness.
  • Restore the module’s power feed or ground if faulty.
  • Repair a CAN wiring or termination defect found during testing.
  • Correct a confirmed gateway routing problem.

Can I keep driving?

Roof movement or status functions may be unavailable; do not try to operate the roof while driving and check that any movable roof panel is properly secured. If it cannot be secured, avoid driving until it is safe.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
