OBD-II fault code

U0200: Lost Communication With Door Control Module B

What it means

Communication with Door Control Module B was not received as expected. The code does not identify which door or functions that module controls.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the warning light of the system that lost communication

How it works

Door Control Module B operates or reports functions for a door assigned to that module, but the code does not identify which door or features it serves. The code sets when other modules no longer receive the expected network messages from Door Control Module B.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Module unpowered
  2. Gateway module routing CAN messages incorrectly
  3. CAN terminating resistor (120 Ω) drifted out of spec

Symptoms

  • Multiple warning lights may illuminate
  • Affected modules may go into limp mode or shut down
  • Specific functions inoperative depending on module
  • Diagnostic tools may show communication faults

How to diagnose it

  1. Record all module codes and freeze-frame data, and check whether communication faults affect other modules as well.
  2. Use a compatible scan tool to see whether Door Control Module B responds and whether its status data is available.
  3. Inspect the module’s power, ground, connector, and wiring, including any flexible door-jamb harness, for damage, looseness, corrosion, or water entry.
  4. Check the network wiring and connector terminals on Module B’s branch for opens, shorts, or poor contact.
  5. If supply and wiring are sound, have gateway routing and CAN termination checked against the manufacturer’s specification.

Common fixes

  • Restore a loose or corroded power or ground connection at Door Control Module B.
  • Repair broken wiring or connector terminals in the module’s door-jamb harness or network branch.
  • Correct a confirmed gateway routing or configuration fault.
  • Repair or replace a CAN terminating resistor if it fails the manufacturer’s specification.

Can I keep driving?

Check that the affected door latches securely and that essential door functions, such as locks and windows needed for safe visibility, work before driving. Avoid using the vehicle if a door will not latch or another affected function makes it unsafe.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
