OBD-II fault code

U0094: Vehicle Communication Bus H (+) Open

What it means

A fault is detected on the positive conductor of vehicle communication bus H; the code descriptor specifies an open circuit. Which functions are affected depends on the vehicle’s network design.

How it works

Bus H's positive conductor carries network signals alongside its negative conductor. U0094 sets when the positive conductor is open, interrupting the signal path and potentially isolating modules that depend on bus H.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Open or damaged bus H positive wire
  2. Loose or corroded connector
  3. A module, gateway, or bus termination fault

Symptoms

  • Communication faults in modules using bus H
  • Warning lights or messages
  • Functions relying on bus H may be unavailable

How to diagnose it

  1. Scan all modules for bus H communication faults and note which modules still respond to narrow down where the open may be.
  2. Review event data and live communication status for which bus H modules disappear together and whether the fault is intermittent.
  3. With power isolated as specified by the manufacturer, inspect bus H positive wiring and connectors for breaks, pulled pins, corrosion, or damaged repairs.
  4. Check continuity along the positive conductor and across suspect connectors using the manufacturer's procedure.
  5. If the conductor is intact, check bus H termination and isolate modules or the gateway as directed to locate a connection interrupting the positive line.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect a loose bus H positive connector and clean its terminals.
  • Repair a broken or damaged section of bus H positive wiring.
  • Replace damaged connector terminals or correct an improper splice on the positive conductor.
  • Repair a confirmed bus H termination, gateway, or module fault.

Can I keep driving?

Modules that rely on bus H may stop communicating, leaving some functions unavailable. Do not drive if the disconnected functions include steering, braking, restraints, or other safety-critical equipment.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
