What it means
The ECM detects a circuit intermittent/erratic fault on the particulate filter pressure sensor d. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The DPF pressure sensor D reports pressure information the ECM uses to assess particulate-filter conditions. This code sets when the sensor’s electrical signal is erratic or intermittent, so the ECM cannot rely on its reading for control.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor connector not seated
- Noisy ground reference
- Connector with intermittent contact under vibration
Symptoms
- Check engine light or DPF warning light on
- Power loss / limp mode
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed forced regeneration attempts
How to diagnose it
- Save the freeze-frame data and check live data for the DPF pressure sensor D for dropouts or abrupt changes, which can confirm an intermittent signal.
- With the engine off, inspect sensor D’s connector and nearby wiring for a loose fit, corrosion, damage, or signs of movement.
- Check whether the signal changes when the connector and harness are gently moved, and note any interruption.
- Inspect the sensor’s ground reference and related connections for looseness or contamination.
- If the wiring and connections are sound, test sensor D and its circuit against the manufacturer’s specifications.
Common fixes
- Reseat and secure the sensor D connector.
- Clean or repair a poor ground-reference connection.
- Repair wiring or terminals with intermittent contact.
- Replace the pressure sensor D if it fails testing.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid long or demanding drives if power is reduced or a DPF warning appears; unreliable pressure data can interfere with filter control and regeneration. If the vehicle enters limp mode or repeated regeneration attempts fail, have the fault diagnosed promptly.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
