What it means
The ECM detects a circuit fault on the particulate filter pressure sensor d. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Particulate filter pressure sensor D provides the control module with pressure information used to assess filter loading and regeneration needs. This code sets when the module detects an electrical circuit fault in sensor D’s signal path, so its reading cannot be trusted for filter control.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor failed
- Wiring or connector fault
Symptoms
- Check engine light or DPF warning light on
- Power loss / limp mode
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed forced regeneration attempts
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and scan live data for particulate filter pressure sensor D, comparing its reading with other available pressure data under the same conditions.
- Inspect sensor D’s connector, wiring, and any pressure lines connected to it for damage, loose terminals, blockage, or leaks.
- Check the sensor’s supply, ground, and signal circuits against the wiring diagram and manufacturer’s specification.
- Test continuity and shorts in sensor D’s wiring with the sensor disconnected to identify an open or shorted circuit.
- If the circuit checks out, test sensor D against the manufacturer’s procedure before considering a sensor replacement.
Common fixes
- Reconnect and secure sensor D’s loose connector or repair damaged terminals.
- Repair an open, short, or damaged section of sensor D wiring.
- Clear an obstructed or leaking pressure line to sensor D, if fitted and confirmed faulty.
- Replace particulate filter pressure sensor D if it fails the manufacturer’s electrical test.
Can I keep driving?
Limit driving if power is reduced or the DPF warning is on, and do not keep attempting forced regenerations with an unreliable sensor reading. Continued use can allow filter loading to worsen and may lead to stronger power restrictions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
