What it means
The ECM detects a circuit low fault on the particulate filter pressure sensor d. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Particulate filter pressure sensor D sends a pressure signal to the control module so it can estimate filter loading and control regeneration. This code sets when that signal circuit is lower than expected, commonly because the signal is grounded or the sensor is internally shorted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Internal sensor short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light or DPF warning light on
- Power loss / limp mode
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed forced regeneration attempts
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check live data for sensor D to confirm whether its signal is stuck unusually low or changes with engine operation.
- Inspect sensor D’s connector and harness for rubbed insulation, a signal wire touching ground, corrosion, or damaged pins.
- Check sensor D’s supply and ground, then measure the signal circuit against the manufacturer’s specification using the wiring diagram.
- With sensor D disconnected, test the signal wire for a short to ground and check the harness for continuity.
- If the wiring passes, test sensor D for an internal short using the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Clean and secure corroded or loose terminals at sensor D.
- Repair the sensor D signal wire where it is shorted to ground or damaged.
- Restore a faulty sensor ground or supply connection if testing identifies it.
- Replace particulate filter pressure sensor D if its signal remains low with a verified-good circuit.
Can I keep driving?
Drive only as needed if power is reduced or the DPF warning is lit, and avoid towing or hard acceleration. The control module may misjudge filter loading, delaying regeneration and increasing the chance of further restriction.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
