OBD-II fault code

P2CE9: Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor C Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The ECM detects a circuit intermittent/erratic fault on the particulate filter pressure sensor c. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

Particulate filter pressure sensor C supplies pressure data that the control module uses to estimate filter loading and manage regeneration. This code sets when sensor C’s circuit signal is unstable or erratic, often because a connector or ground loses contact intermittently.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Check engine light or DPF warning light on
  • Power loss / limp mode
  • Increased fuel consumption
  • Failed forced regeneration attempts

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and review sensor C live data for sudden jumps or dropouts, noting engine speed and vibration conditions when they occur.
  2. Inspect sensor C’s connector seating, terminal tension, wiring support, and ground connection for looseness, corrosion, or movement.
  3. With live data displayed, gently move the sensor C harness and connector to see whether the signal changes when the fault is reproduced.
  4. Check the sensor C signal, supply, and ground circuits for intermittent opens or resistance changes using the manufacturer’s procedure.
  5. If the wiring remains stable, test sensor C for an intermittent internal fault under the conditions recorded in the freeze frame.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and lock the sensor C connector, securing the harness so vibration cannot pull on it.
  • Clean or replace corroded or loose terminals in the sensor C connector.
  • Repair damaged wiring or a poor ground that causes the signal to drop out.
  • Replace sensor C if its signal remains erratic with a stable, verified circuit.

Can I keep driving?

If the fault causes intermittent power loss or a DPF warning, avoid long or high-load trips until the signal is stable. Unreliable pressure data can interrupt regeneration and let filter loading worsen.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
