What it means
The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the particulate filter pressure sensor d. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
Particulate filter pressure sensor D measures pressure used by the control module to judge filter restriction and manage regeneration. This code sets when sensor D’s reading is electrically plausible but does not respond within the expected range or relationship to operating conditions.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check engine light or DPF warning light on
- Power loss / limp mode
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed forced regeneration attempts
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and watch sensor D live data at idle and during a controlled change in engine speed, noting whether the reading changes as expected.
- Inspect sensor D’s mounting and pressure connections for displacement, leaks, blockage, or loose tubing that could distort the pressure it senses.
- Compare sensor D’s reading with other available pressure readings and the manufacturer’s expected relationships for the same operating conditions.
- Check sensor D’s wiring, connector, supply, and ground to rule out poor contact causing an apparently out-of-range reading.
- If the connections and circuit are sound, test sensor D’s response using the manufacturer’s procedure for range/performance faults.
Common fixes
- Secure sensor D in its correct mounting position and reconnect any displaced pressure lines.
- Repair leaks or clear a confirmed obstruction in sensor D’s pressure path.
- Clean or repair sensor D connector terminals and wiring if poor contact is found.
- Replace sensor D if its response has drifted outside the manufacturer’s calibration limits.
Can I keep driving?
If the vehicle has reduced power or a DPF warning, keep trips short and avoid heavy loads until sensor D’s reading is reliable. Incorrect pressure data can prevent proper regeneration and allow the filter to become more restricted.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
