What it means
The module detects an intermittent or erratic signal from particulate filter pressure sensor B. It sets the code when the circuit input drops out or fluctuates beyond the monitor's limits.
How it works
Particulate filter pressure sensor B reports pressure information used by the module to monitor the DPF. P2462 sets when the sensor B signal drops out or varies erratically beyond the monitor's limits, rather than staying consistently high or low.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Loose or corroded connector
- Damaged or chafed wiring
- Faulty pressure sensor
- Blocked or cracked pressure hoses
- Poor sensor ground
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- DPF warning
- Reduced engine power
- More frequent regeneration
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and review live sensor B pressure data to identify the engine conditions and whether the signal is dropping out or jumping.
- Inspect sensor B's connector for looseness, corrosion, pushed-back pins, or moisture that could interrupt contact.
- Follow the sensor B harness and pressure hoses, looking for chafing, heat damage, loose routing, cracks, or blockages.
- With live data displayed, gently move the connector and harness to check whether vibration or movement makes the signal fluctuate.
- Check sensor B's signal, supply, and ground circuits for intermittent opens or poor connections using the manufacturer's wiring information.
- If the circuit and hoses are intact, compare the sensor's output with the manufacturer's specification and replace it if it behaves erratically.
Common fixes
- Reseat the sensor B connector and repair corroded or loose terminals.
- Secure or repair chafed or damaged wiring in the sensor B harness.
- Replace cracked or blocked sensor B pressure hoses.
- Replace particulate filter pressure sensor B if its signal remains erratic with sound wiring and hoses.
Can I keep driving?
If power and drivability remain normal, drive only as needed and monitor for a DPF warning or reduced power. Intermittent pressure feedback can disrupt regeneration, so have the fault checked promptly if warnings or symptoms appear.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
