OBD-II fault code

P2460: Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor B Circuit Low

What it means

The control module detects a low signal in the particulate-filter pressure sensor B circuit. The code identifies a circuit signal fault, not a blocked or damaged pressure hose.

How it works

DPF pressure sensor B converts pressure at its designated filter connections into an electrical signal used to estimate restriction and guide regeneration. P2460 sets when the control module sees sensor B's circuit signal below its expected range, pointing to an electrical low-signal fault rather than proving that a pressure hose or the DPF is blocked.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Low signal from pressure sensor B
  2. Short to ground in sensor wiring
  3. Open or high resistance in the circuit
  4. Faulty sensor

Symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • DPF warning
  • Reduced engine power
  • More frequent regeneration

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and compare sensor B's signal with other DPF pressure data and any related sensor circuit codes.
  2. Inspect sensor B's connector and wiring for a short to ground, chafing, corrosion, or loose terminals.
  3. Check sensor B's supply and ground, then measure its signal at the connector against the manufacturer's specification.
  4. Inspect the pressure hoses serving sensor B for cracks, disconnection, or blockage so a separate pressure-path fault is not overlooked.
  5. If supply, ground, wiring, and hoses check out, test or substitute sensor B only as directed by the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.

Common fixes

  • Repair a sensor B signal wire shorted to ground or damaged by chafing.
  • Clean and secure corroded or loose connector terminals.
  • Restore a faulty supply or ground connection to sensor B.
  • Replace pressure sensor B if its output remains low with a verified circuit.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving if the DPF warning appears or power drops, and avoid heavy loads until sensor B's circuit is checked. A false low signal can interfere with regeneration control and contribute to soot buildup.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
