What it means
Voltage on the DPF differential-pressure sensor signal line is below the lower threshold. Typically a short to ground or an open in the supply line.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
DPF pressure Sensor A reports the pressure difference across the filter to the engine control module. P2454 sets when the voltage on Sensor A's signal circuit falls below the module's lower threshold, so the pressure reading cannot be trusted.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Reference voltage line open
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check engine light or DPF warning light on
- Power loss / limp mode
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed forced regeneration attempts
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and Sensor A live data to confirm the circuit voltage or pressure signal is low when the fault occurs.
- Inspect Sensor A's connector and harness for corrosion, loose pins, damaged insulation, or a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Check the sensor's pressure hoses for disconnection, blockage, or kinks so a hose fault is not mistaken for a circuit fault.
- Using the manufacturer's wiring diagram, measure Sensor A's reference supply, ground, and signal circuit to identify a low signal or open supply.
- If wiring and supply are correct but the signal remains low, test Sensor A and replace it only if it fails the manufacturer's procedure.
Common fixes
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground.
- Restore an open Sensor A reference supply or repair a damaged connector.
- Clean or repair corroded Sensor A connector pins.
- Replace DPF pressure Sensor A if it fails circuit testing.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid repeated forced regeneration attempts while Sensor A's low signal prevents a dependable soot-load reading. If a DPF warning or power loss appears, limit driving and arrange diagnosis to reduce the chance of increasing soot buildup.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
