What it means
The injector control pressure sensor circuit signal is intermittent. The fault may be in the sensor or its wiring or connections.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
How it works
The injector control pressure sensor reports hydraulic pressure used by the engine’s injection system. The control module watches the sensor signal and sets P2287 when it becomes erratic or drops in and out instead of changing steadily with operating conditions.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Intermittent connector contact
- Sensor failing under load
- Harness routed against vibrating component
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may come and go
- Intermittent hard starting or stalling
- Intermittent rough running or loss of power
How to diagnose it
- Save the freeze-frame data and review live injector control pressure while reproducing the starting or running symptom to see when the signal becomes erratic.
- With the engine off, inspect the sensor connector for loose fit, corrosion, moisture, or damaged terminals that could interrupt contact.
- Trace the sensor harness and look for chafing, pinching, or contact with a vibrating or hot component.
- While watching live data, gently move the connector and harness to check whether the pressure reading cuts out.
- If the wiring checks out, test the sensor circuit and sensor response against the manufacturer's specification, then replace a sensor that intermittently fails.
Common fixes
- Secure a loose sensor connector or repair damaged terminals.
- Repair chafed wiring and reroute the harness away from vibrating or hot parts.
- Replace an injector control pressure sensor that fails its circuit or response tests.
Can I keep driving?
If the engine is running normally, limit driving and avoid heavy loads; an intermittent signal can lead to stalling or loss of power. Stop somewhere safe if it begins stalling or becomes difficult to control.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
