OBD-II fault code

P2283: Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit

What it means

The control module detects an electrical fault in the injector control pressure sensor circuit. The code identifies a circuit problem; it does not by itself identify the failed component.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test

How it works

The injector control pressure sensor reports pressure in the system that supports injector operation, on engines equipped with this system. The control module sets P2283 when it detects an electrical fault in the sensor circuit; the code alone does not show whether the sensor, wiring, connector, or module is at fault.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Damaged or failed pressure sensor
  2. Open, shorted, or damaged wiring
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Control-module fault

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light may illuminate
  • Hard starting or extended cranking
  • Rough running or stalling
  • Reduced power

How to diagnose it

  1. Check freeze-frame data and scan-tool readings for injector control pressure, noting whether the signal is missing, unstable, or implausible during cranking or running.
  2. With the engine off, inspect the injector control pressure sensor connector and harness for looseness, corrosion, damaged insulation, or fluid contamination.
  3. Check the sensor circuit's supply, ground, and signal wiring for opens or shorts using the wiring diagram and manufacturer's specification.
  4. Monitor the pressure reading while gently moving the connector and harness to identify a poor connection.
  5. If the wiring checks out, test the injector control pressure sensor and then the control-module connection according to the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Reconnect and secure a loose injector control pressure sensor connector.
  • Clean or repair corroded terminals and damaged connector seals.
  • Repair an open, shorted, or damaged sensor-circuit wire.
  • Replace the injector control pressure sensor if it fails testing.
  • Repair a control-module connection or replace the module only if diagnosis confirms that fault.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid driving if the engine is hard to start, stalls, or has a major power loss; arrange repair before relying on the vehicle. A faulty pressure signal can disrupt injector operation and leave the engine unable to run reliably.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
