What it means
The injector control pressure sensor circuit signal is lower than the control module expects. This can result from a circuit or sensor fault; the code alone does not establish the cause.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- Affects emissions; the car can fail an emissions test
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The injector control pressure sensor sends a pressure signal to the module on engines equipped with this system. P2285 sets when that signal is lower than expected, which can result from a short to ground, a supply or connection problem, or a faulty sensor.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Signal shorted to ground
- Open 5 V supply
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- Check-engine light may illuminate
- Hard starting or extended cranking
- Rough running or stalling
- Reduced power
How to diagnose it
- Check freeze-frame data and live injector control pressure readings to confirm the signal is low during the conditions that set the code.
- Inspect the sensor connector and harness for corrosion, damaged insulation, loose terminals, or fluid contamination.
- Using the wiring diagram, check the sensor's supply and ground circuits for an open or poor connection against the manufacturer's specification.
- Test the signal wire for a short to ground and check for voltage drop or intermittent contact at the connector.
- If the circuit is intact, test the injector control pressure sensor and compare its output with the manufacturer's specification.
Common fixes
- Reconnect a loose injector control pressure sensor connector.
- Clean or repair corroded terminals or damaged connector seals.
- Repair a signal wire shorted to ground or an open supply wire.
- Replace the injector control pressure sensor if its output remains low with a verified circuit.
- Repair a confirmed control-module fault only after circuit and sensor checks.
Can I keep driving?
Avoid driving if the engine is hard to start, runs roughly, stalls, or has reduced power; the vehicle may not respond reliably. If it runs normally, limit use and avoid heavy loads until the low pressure signal is diagnosed.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
