What it means
The A/C refrigerant distribution valve B reports a control circuit low condition. Wiring faults of this kind typically come from chafing, water ingress at connector seals, or pin push-back — a wiggle test on the harness while the code is active often confirms the location.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
A/C refrigerant distribution valve B controls refrigerant flow through one part of the air-conditioning system. The control module monitors valve B’s electrical control circuit and sets this code when the circuit signal is lower than expected, which can indicate a short to ground or a fault in the valve coil or connection.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Wire shorted to ground
- Coil internal short
- Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance
Symptoms
- A/C warning light or check-engine light
- Air conditioning may cool poorly or intermittently
How to diagnose it
- Use a scan tool to confirm P0EE5 and record freeze-frame data, including whether the fault appeared while A/C was requested.
- With the system off, inspect valve B’s connector and harness for chafing, moisture, corrosion, backed-out pins, or a wire touching ground.
- Check live data or the module’s valve command, if available, and gently move the valve B harness while watching for the fault to change.
- Following the vehicle wiring diagram, test valve B’s control wire for a short to ground and check connector continuity and terminal contact.
- Measure valve B’s coil and circuit as specified by the manufacturer, then compare with the corresponding circuit if the vehicle provides one.
Common fixes
- Repair chafed or grounded wiring in valve B’s control circuit.
- Clean or repair corroded, loose, or pushed-back valve B connector terminals and ensure the connector seal is sound.
- Replace valve B if its coil is shorted or fails the manufacturer’s electrical checks.
- Clear the code and verify valve B operation and A/C cooling.
Can I keep driving?
You can usually drive if the vehicle otherwise operates normally, but A/C cooling may be poor or intermittent. Avoid relying on the A/C until repaired, especially when cabin cooling is needed for safe visibility or passenger comfort.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
