OBD-II fault code

P0EE3: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack F Deterioration

What it means

The BMS detects deterioration in HV battery pack section F. Capacity or internal resistance outside service limits.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery management system monitors the condition of each high-voltage battery section, and this code names section F. It evaluates section F's capacity, internal resistance, and balance against service limits. P0EE3 is set when the measured condition of section F falls outside the allowed range.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Cells aged - capacity reduced
  2. Internal resistance increased
  3. Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and retrieve section F capacity, resistance, and cell-balance readings from the battery management system.
  2. Compare section F with the other battery sections under similar charge and load conditions to see whether the issue is confined to F.
  3. Inspect the cooling route and accessible section F connectors for restricted airflow, damaged insulation, corrosion, or loose terminals using the prescribed high-voltage safety procedure.
  4. Check section F temperature and sensing data for implausible readings that could indicate a sensor or circuit fault.
  5. Use the manufacturer's battery evaluation procedure to confirm cell deterioration or imbalance before replacing pack components.

Common fixes

  • Clear a confirmed battery cooling obstruction.
  • Repair damaged section F wiring or connector contacts.
  • Replace a sensing component only if its fault is confirmed by testing.
  • Repair or replace the battery section or pack if section F deterioration is confirmed.

Can I keep driving?

Reduced range and power can worsen, and limp operation may leave limited acceleration; avoid long trips and heavy loads. Stop safely if the vehicle loses enough power to make continued driving unsafe.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
