What it means
The A/C refrigerant distribution valve B reports a control circuit/open condition.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
The A/C refrigerant distribution valve directs refrigerant through the system, and valve B is operated through a dedicated control circuit. The control module monitors that circuit for electrical continuity. P0EE4 sets when the valve B circuit is detected as open, which may be caused by the wiring, connector, or valve coil.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Open in control wire
- Coil open
- Pin pushed back out of connector body
Symptoms
- A/C warning light or check-engine light
- Air conditioning may cool poorly or intermittently
How to diagnose it
- Save freeze-frame data and check for related A/C or electrical codes to see whether the valve B fault occurs alongside another circuit issue.
- Inspect the valve B connector for a pushed-back pin, poor seating, corrosion, or moisture, since a terminal can look connected while making no contact.
- Trace the valve B control wiring for breaks, chafing, or heat damage, especially near the valve and harness bends.
- With power isolated as specified by the manufacturer, test the valve B coil and circuit continuity against the manufacturer's specifications.
- If the wiring and coil pass, check the control module output and command using the manufacturer's diagnostic procedure.
Common fixes
- Seat the valve B connector and correct a pushed-back terminal.
- Repair an open or damaged valve B control wire.
- Replace the valve B coil or valve assembly if the coil is confirmed open.
- Repair a confirmed control module circuit fault.
Can I keep driving?
This fault usually affects air-conditioning performance rather than basic vehicle control, so driving is generally possible if no other warnings are present. Avoid relying on the A/C for defogging in conditions where poor visibility could result.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
