OBD-II fault code

P0EE2: Hybrid/EV Battery Pack E Deterioration

What it means

The BMS detects deterioration in HV battery pack section E. Capacity or internal resistance outside service limits.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The battery management system tracks high-voltage battery sections separately, and this code identifies section E. It monitors section E's capacity, internal resistance, and cell balance against service limits. P0EE2 sets when those measurements show section E has deteriorated beyond the permitted range.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Cells aged - capacity reduced
  2. Internal resistance increased
  3. Pack cell imbalance approaching service threshold

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced power output or limp mode
  • Charging may fail or be slowed
  • Reduced electric range

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and read section E capacity, resistance, and cell-balance values with a battery-system scan tool.
  2. Compare section E readings with neighboring sections during comparable charge and load conditions to determine whether E is uniquely weak.
  3. Inspect battery cooling airflow and accessible section E sensing connectors for blockage, damage, corrosion, or looseness while observing high-voltage precautions.
  4. Review section E temperature and sensor readings for inconsistencies that could indicate a measurement or wiring fault.
  5. Follow the manufacturer's battery evaluation procedure to confirm actual section E deterioration before battery repair.

Common fixes

  • Remove a confirmed obstruction affecting battery cooling.
  • Repair damaged section E wiring or connector terminals.
  • Replace a confirmed faulty battery sensor or control component.
  • Repair or replace the battery section or pack if testing confirms section E deterioration.

Can I keep driving?

With power reduced or limp operation active, avoid heavy loads and routes that require strong acceleration. Charging may be slowed or unavailable, so limit driving and stop if power becomes insufficient for safe travel.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
