OBD-II fault code

P0EAE: A/C Compressor Motor Voltage Sensor B Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The ECM detects a intermittent/erratic fault on the a/c compressor motor voltage sensor b circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Voltage sensor B supplies the control module with an A/C compressor motor voltage signal. P0EAE is set when that signal drops out or jumps unpredictably, often because the connector or wiring loses contact with vibration or the ground reference is unstable.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or hybrid system warning light
  • Air conditioning may cut in and out
  • Cooling may be intermittent

How to diagnose it

  1. Review freeze-frame data and monitor live sensor B readings for dropouts, especially around changes in compressor operation.
  2. Inspect the sensor B connector for incomplete seating, loose terminals, corrosion, or moisture.
  3. Trace the sensor B harness for chafing, strain, or damage near moving or vibrating components.
  4. Check the sensor B ground and reference connections for intermittent contact, following the manufacturer's circuit information.
  5. If the wiring checks out, test voltage sensor B during manufacturer-specified operating checks to see whether its output remains erratic.

Common fixes

  • Fully seat and secure the sensor B connector.
  • Clean or replace loose or corroded connector terminals.
  • Repair chafed sensor B wiring and secure the harness against vibration.
  • Repair an unstable ground or reference connection.
  • Replace voltage sensor B if its signal remains erratic with a sound circuit.

Can I keep driving?

The A/C may cut in and out, and the vehicle may show a hybrid warning. If there are no other warnings, limit driving only as needed to reach service, and avoid relying on cabin climate control because compressor operation may stop unexpectedly.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
