OBD-II fault code

P0EB0: A/C Compressor Motor Current Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the a/c compressor motor current sensor circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The A/C compressor motor current sensor reports compressor electrical current to the control module. P0EB0 means the reading's range or response does not match expected compressor operation, which can result from sensor drift or incorrect sensor positioning.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • Check-engine or hybrid system warning light
  • Air conditioning may not cool
  • Cooling may be intermittent

How to diagnose it

  1. Use freeze-frame and live data to compare the current sensor reading with compressor commands and related hybrid or A/C codes.
  2. Inspect the current sensor mounting and position, then check its connector and harness for looseness, corrosion, or damage.
  3. Verify the current sensor's reference or supply and ground connections, and test the signal wiring for opens or shorts.
  4. Compare the sensor response during manufacturer-specified compressor checks with the manufacturer's specification.
  5. If mounting and wiring pass, test for current sensor drift before investigating a compressor or inverter fault.

Common fixes

  • Correct the current sensor position if it has shifted.
  • Secure the connector and clean or repair corroded terminals.
  • Repair damaged or high-resistance current sensor wiring.
  • Replace the current sensor if its response is outside specification.
  • Repair the compressor or inverter only if sensor and circuit checks show the fault lies there.

Can I keep driving?

The A/C may cool poorly or intermittently, with a possible hybrid warning. Arrange diagnosis soon because the control module may limit compressor operation; do not depend on cabin heating or cooling in extreme weather.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
