OBD-II fault code

P0EA9: A/C Compressor Motor Voltage Sensor B Circuit Performance

What it means

The A/C compressor motor voltage sensor B signal does not match the expected operating range or behavior. The module sets this code when the signal fails its performance checks.

How it works

Voltage sensor B monitors one of the A/C compressor motor’s electrical voltage signals, which the control module uses to manage compressor operation. P0EA9 is set when the sensor B signal does not follow the expected pattern during operation, even though it is not necessarily stuck simply low or high.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Faulty voltage sensor
  2. A/C compressor inverter fault
  3. Loose or corroded connector
  4. Damaged sensor wiring

Symptoms

  • A/C may not cool or heat properly
  • A/C warning light
  • Hybrid or EV warning light

How to diagnose it

  1. Use a scan tool to record freeze-frame data and compare sensor B voltage readings with compressor commands and other available compressor data.
  2. Inspect the sensor B connector and nearby wiring for looseness, corrosion, chafing, or heat damage.
  3. Check that the sensor is secure and correctly positioned, since movement can make its signal inconsistent with actual compressor voltage.
  4. With the system disabled as specified by the manufacturer, test the sensor B signal, reference, and ground circuits for continuity, shorts, and poor connections.
  5. Compare sensor B output with the manufacturer's specification during the applicable operating checks to distinguish a sensor fault from an inverter or wiring problem.

Common fixes

  • Reseat the sensor B connector and clean or repair corroded terminals.
  • Repair damaged sensor B wiring or restore a poor ground connection.
  • Secure or correctly position the voltage sensor B.
  • Replace a voltage sensor B that fails its specified output checks.
  • Repair the A/C compressor inverter if its output or control is out of specification.

Can I keep driving?

If the A/C or hybrid warning appears, cooling may be reduced or unavailable; avoid relying on cabin climate control in extreme heat or cold. Have the fault diagnosed promptly because the control module may limit compressor operation.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
