What it means
The ECM detects a range/performance fault on the a/c compressor motor voltage sensor b circuit. Reading cannot be used reliably for control.
At a glance
- Usually lights the check-engine light
- The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode
How it works
Voltage sensor B reports an A/C compressor motor voltage signal that the control module checks against expected operating conditions. P0EAB means the signal is present but its range or response does not agree with those conditions, which can point to a drifting sensor or one that is displaced.
Common causes
Most likely first.
- Sensor characteristic drifted
- Sensor mounting displaced
- Sensor element aged beyond calibration window
Symptoms
- Check-engine or hybrid system warning light
- Air conditioning may not cool
- Cooling may be intermittent
How to diagnose it
- Review freeze-frame and live data for sensor B alongside compressor commands and related A/C or hybrid codes to identify when its response departs from expectations.
- Inspect sensor B mounting and alignment, then check its connector and harness for corrosion, damage, or looseness.
- Verify the sensor B reference and ground connections and test the signal wiring for opens, shorts, or unwanted resistance.
- Check whether sensor B changes appropriately during manufacturer-specified compressor operating checks and compare the result with specification.
- If the circuit and mounting are sound, test voltage sensor B for characteristic drift before considering an inverter fault.
Common fixes
- Correct sensor B mounting or alignment if it has shifted.
- Clean and secure the sensor B connector or repair its terminals.
- Repair damaged or high-resistance signal, reference, or ground wiring.
- Replace voltage sensor B if its response is outside the manufacturer's specification.
- Repair the compressor inverter if sensor B checks good but the voltage behavior remains abnormal.
Can I keep driving?
A/C performance may be reduced or intermittent, and hybrid warnings may accompany the fault. The vehicle may limit compressor use, so arrange diagnosis soon and do not depend on cabin heating or cooling in extreme conditions.
A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together
This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
