OBD-II fault code

P0E29: Drive Motor Inverter Temperature Sensor H Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The drive motor inverter temperature sensor H reading is outside the expected range or does not respond as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Inverter temperature sensor H monitors temperature at its location in the drive motor inverter. P0E29 sets when the H reading is electrically present but falls outside the expected range or does not change as the module expects, which may point to a drifting sensor or displaced mounting.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare sensor H's live reading with other inverter sensors and the vehicle's operating conditions to identify an implausible value or response.
  2. With the vehicle safely powered down, inspect sensor H's mounting and confirm it is seated at its intended measurement point.
  3. Check the H sensor connector and wiring for damage or poor contact that could distort the reading.
  4. Monitor sensor H as the inverter warms or cools under an appropriate service procedure, checking whether its reading changes plausibly relative to other sensors.
  5. Test sensor H against the manufacturer's specification and replace it only if its response or calibration is outside the specified range.

Common fixes

  • Correct sensor H's mounting if it has shifted or is not seated properly.
  • Clean and secure the sensor H connector and repair damaged wiring.
  • Replace sensor H if its temperature response is outside the manufacturer's specification.
  • Repair the module input circuit if sensor H and its wiring pass testing.

Can I keep driving?

Limit driving, especially high-load acceleration, because an inaccurate H reading can lead the system to reduce torque or enter limp mode. Stop safely if power is reduced or the vehicle reports a hybrid-system fault.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
