OBD-II fault code

P0E24: Drive Motor Inverter Temperature Sensor G Circuit Range/Performance

What it means

The drive motor inverter temperature sensor G reading is outside the expected range or does not respond as expected.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Inverter temperature sensor G measures temperature at a monitored point in the drive motor inverter. The control module sets this range or performance code when sensor G’s reading falls outside the expected range or does not change as expected, even though the circuit may not be electrically open or shorted.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor characteristic drifted
  2. Sensor mounting displaced
  3. Sensor element aged beyond calibration window

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Save freeze-frame data and compare sensor G’s temperature with other inverter temperature readings and ambient conditions for an implausible value.
  2. Check live data as the inverter warms or cools under safe conditions to see whether sensor G responds smoothly and plausibly.
  3. With the vehicle powered down as specified by the manufacturer, inspect sensor G’s mounting and connector for displacement, poor contact, or contamination.
  4. Check the sensor G wiring for damage and test its response against the manufacturer’s specification across the relevant temperature conditions.
  5. If the circuit and mounting are sound but the reading remains inaccurate or sluggish, replace sensor G and verify the data afterward.

Common fixes

  • Secure sensor G correctly if its mounting has shifted.
  • Clean and reconnect sensor G’s connector if contact is poor.
  • Repair damaged wiring affecting sensor G’s temperature signal.
  • Replace sensor G if its readings drift or fail the specified response test.

Can I keep driving?

Avoid sustained high speed, heavy acceleration, or demanding climbs if the vehicle limits motor power or shows an inverter warning; a misleading sensor G reading can lead to power reduction or shutdown. Stop if an overheat warning appears.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
