OBD-II fault code

P0E27: Drive Motor Inverter Temperature Sensor G Circuit Intermittent/Erratic

What it means

The drive motor inverter temperature sensor G signal is intermittent or erratic.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

Inverter temperature sensor G reports temperature at its monitored point in the drive motor inverter. P0E27 sets when the module sees sensor G's signal fluctuate or become inconsistent, rather than stay stable as expected; a loose connector or disturbed ground reference can cause this.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Sensor connector not seated
  2. Noisy ground reference
  3. Connector with intermittent contact under vibration

Symptoms

  • EV/hybrid system warning light on
  • Reduced motor power or torque
  • Possible limp mode or vehicle shutdown

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and monitor sensor G live data for sudden jumps or dropouts, noting whether other inverter temperature readings remain steady.
  2. Power the vehicle down using its service instructions and check that sensor G's connector is fully seated and its pins are clean and undamaged.
  3. Inspect the sensor G harness and ground-reference wiring for chafing, loose terminals, or routing that could let vibration disturb the connection.
  4. With the appropriate service procedure, monitor sensor G's signal while gently moving the accessible harness to look for dropouts.
  5. If the connections remain sound, test sensor G and its ground reference for stable operation according to the manufacturer's specification.

Common fixes

  • Reseat and secure the sensor G connector.
  • Clean or repair loose, corroded, or damaged connector terminals.
  • Repair chafed sensor G wiring or a poor ground-reference connection.
  • Replace sensor G if its signal remains erratic with sound wiring and connections.

Can I keep driving?

Use caution and avoid demanding acceleration, as intermittent readings can trigger reduced torque or limp mode. The vehicle may shut down if the hybrid system can no longer manage inverter temperature reliably.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
