OBD-II fault code

P0E0B: Generator Phase W Current Sensor Circuit High

What it means

The generator phase W current sensor circuit signal is above the expected range.

At a glance

  • Usually lights the check-engine light
  • The engine or gearbox may go into limp mode

How it works

The phase W current sensor reports generator W-phase current to the hybrid control module. P0E0B sets when the signal is above the expected range, which can happen if the signal is shorted to battery voltage, the sensor circuit is open, or connector resistance disrupts the reading.

Common causes

Most likely first.

  1. Signal wire shorted to B+
  2. Open sensor
  3. Connector pins corroded - high contact resistance

Symptoms

  • Hybrid/EV system warning light may turn on
  • Reduced power or charging performance

How to diagnose it

  1. Record freeze-frame data and scan for related hybrid or inverter codes to see when the phase W signal became high.
  2. Compare live phase W current with U- and V-phase readings under the same conditions to confirm the abnormal signal.
  3. With the high-voltage system made safe under the vehicle service procedure, inspect the phase W sensor connector and harness for corrosion, open or damaged conductors, loose pins, or contact with a higher-voltage wire.
  4. Using the manufacturer's wiring diagram, check the signal circuit for an open and for a short to battery voltage or another higher-voltage circuit.
  5. If wiring and connector tests pass, test the phase W sensor and its supply and ground circuits for an open or internal failure.

Common fixes

  • Repair an open or damaged phase W sensor signal wire.
  • Repair wiring shorted to battery voltage or another higher-voltage circuit.
  • Clean or replace corroded connector terminals and ensure proper contact.
  • Replace a phase W sensor confirmed open or faulty.

Can I keep driving?

If power or charging is reduced, avoid demanding acceleration and limit driving to a safe destination. Stop safely if propulsion becomes unreliable, since hybrid operation may be restricted further.

A code shows where the control module detected a fault, not always which part failed. Check the causes in order and confirm with a test before replacing parts. Have several codes? Check them together

This is a generic code: it means the same on every make. The car’s maker may add more detail in its own service information.
